Forty Years Between Two Championships

Toto Turner Stadium is the football stadium of Beersheba, and it is the home of Hapoel Be'er Sheva since the 2015 season.

Its numbers are big. It was built at a cost of more than 220 million shekels, and it has 16,126 seats, and around it about 2,600 parking places. It is named after Yaakov Terner, a former mayor of Beersheba.

It replaced Vasermil Stadium. And besides the matches of Hapoel Be'er Sheva it sometimes also hosts international matches of the Israel national team.

And the club itself is much older. It was founded in 1949, and its colors are red and white. Until 1959 it played its home matches in a stadium that was in the Old City, afterwards at Vasermil, and since then here.

The first titles came in the 1970s: one championship, and a second championship in the season after it.

And then nothing happened. Forty years.

In the 2015 season the club won the third championship in its history — in its first season in this stadium, after a run of 29 matches without a defeat. It decided the title with a 3–1 victory over Bnei Sakhnin, here.

And after it came two more championships, in the two following seasons. In the Champions League qualifiers of that period the club passed Sheriff Tiraspol and Olympiacos, and was eliminated against Celtic.

And in the final of the State Cup of 2025 it beat Beitar Jerusalem 2–0. In the 2026 season it won the sixth championship in its history, after a 4–2 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv, one round before the end of the season.

And because of the Swords of Iron War the club held its home matches in Bulgaria. That is, a club from Beersheba played 'at home' in another country, thousands of kilometers away, in front of stands that were not its own stands. This happens sometimes in football, and it always means that something bigger is happening off the pitch.

In all: six championships and four State Cups. The owner since 2007 is the businesswoman Alona Barkat.
