Monument to the Founders of Yeruham

The story

In the center of Yeruham stands a monument to the founders of the locality. The founders arrived here in 1951, to the transit camp that Amnon Za'ir of Kibbutz Gan Shmuel set up and that was named Tel Yeruham: immigrants from Romania first, and after them immigrants from Morocco, from Persia and from India. Two thirds of the first ones left. Pinchas Ma'anit, one of the founders of Nahalal, moved here with his family and stood at the head of the locality, and from 1959 at the head of the local council. In 1959 the transit camp was dismantled and a permanent locality was established, and in 1962 its name was changed to Yeruham.
