Memorial Site for the Fallen of Israel's Wars and of Hostile Actions

The story

The municipal memorial site of Beersheba was established in memory of the city's residents who fell in Israel's wars and in hostile actions, and in memory of the fallen who died as a result of their disability. It was dedicated on 26 June 2023 and extends over nine and a half dunams in Neighborhood Tet, in the southwest of the city, next to the municipal military cemetery. The park is bounded by Megiddo Street on the north, Jo Alon Road on the south, Beit El Street on the west and the four water reservoirs of the Mekorot company on the east. The site was designed by the landscape architect Ariel Sedra, and it has three entrances. At its center is a large open plaza, and at its southern end a long memorial wall on which the names of the fallen are engraved. The wall is divided into three parts: the part that carries a projection element is dedicated to the fallen of Israel's wars, the central part to those who fell in hostile actions, and the third to the fallen who died as a result of their disability. At the northern end of the plaza seating terraces for about one hundred and eighty people were built, and so the site serves also as a place for ceremonies and not only for a single visit. Around the plaza is a park with walking paths and benches, and among the paths large rocks are scattered, each rock representing a different corps of the IDF.
