The Bell Garden

The story

The Bell Garden extends along the bank of Nahal Be'er Sheva, close to the Neve Noy neighborhood and near Abraham's Well at the gates of the Old City. Its construction was completed in 1995, and it is the first project in the layout of the Nahal Be'er Sheva park; the park was built through the Jewish National Fund, and the garden was made with the help of the friends of the JNF in Canada. It received its name from a well: nearby an ancient well was found whose shape is the shape of a bell. It has lawned and shaded areas, play equipment for children, resting areas, barbecue areas, a toilet building and a performance stage, and also a eucalyptus grove; it adjoins the bed of the stream, and from the garden the Old City can be seen. The garden is open every day from seven in the morning until eleven at night. Its size is given in two sources in two measures: about thirty-five dunams in one and about forty in the other. In 2018 it was published in the local press that a developer was planning to set up in the area of the garden an entertainment and leisure center of three thousand six hundred square meters, with restaurants, cafés, convenience stores and a small martial arts complex, with an opening planned for the first of January 2019.
