The Open Museum at Omer

The story

The Open Museum at Omer was an art museum in the industrial park of Omer, east of Beersheba. It was established by Stef Wertheimer, in a format similar to the Open Museum he established at Tefen — that is, a museum inside an industrial area, which places art in a place people come to in order to work. It had a sculpture garden with changing exhibitions, a large gallery for changing exhibitions mainly in painting and sculpture, a permanent exhibition of collectors' vehicles, two corners of interactive displays for children and a classroom. In 2018 the museum was closed and was merged with the Open Museum Tefen. The garden's sculptures were photographed in December of that year and documented on Wikimedia Commons, among them “The Rider” by Assaf Lifshitz, a flute player sculpture by Ofra Zimbalista, “Communication Dish” by Yael Zimbalista, “Berlin Wheat” and “Berlin Dome” by Ilan Averbuch, “The Binding of Isaac” by Shlomo Selinger, the sculpture “Forest” by Nora and Naomi, and a sculpture by Ahmad Canaan.
