The “Lot's Wife” Artists' Quarter

The story

At the western end of the industrial zone of Arad, on the main road that descends to the Dead Sea and to Masada, stands the “Lot's Wife” Artists' Quarter. Artists who are residents of Arad joined here into a creating community, and the quarter combines creation, art and a desert atmosphere. Several galleries operate in the quarter. On Thursday evenings during the summer the fair “Hamishi baRova” is held in it: the galleries open to the public, and alongside them performances, a farmers' market and the cool air of the evening. The quarter is part of a wider scene. In Arad operates the Center for Contemporary Art, which presents exhibitions from the city, from Israel and from the world, and runs an international artist residency program that in recent years has drawn more than a hundred artists. On the festival of Sukkot “open houses” days of the artists of the city are held, and along the year “Art Cafe” fairs take place.
