Tarabin a-Sana

The story

Tarabin a-Sana (Arabic: ترابين الصانع) is a Bedouin locality in the northern Negev, south of Rahat. Its residents are members of the a-Sana group of the Tarabin confederation, one of the great Bedouin confederations of the Negev, whose people lived in the Negev and in the north of the Sinai Peninsula. After the establishment of the state the group settled in the area adjoining Omer. In 1998 the head of the Omer local council, Pini Badash, initiated an expansion of Omer northward into that same area, and on 29 September 2003 government decision 881 was adopted, which allotted land south of Rahat for the establishment of a new locality for the group. The locality was established in 2005 and was recognized in 2006, and was included in national priority area A. Until November 2012 it belonged to the Abu Basma Regional Council, and with its division into two councils it passed to the Al-Qasum Regional Council. A mosque, a school and a clinic operate in it. According to the data of the Central Bureau of Statistics for the end of 2024, 1,124 residents live in it.
