Arara BaNegev

The story

Arara BaNegev (Arabic: عرعرة النقب) is a Bedouin locality in the east of the Negev, about ten kilometers northwest of Dimona. It was established in 1981 in the Arad area, within the government plan for the establishment of seven permanent localities for the Bedouin population in the Negev. Living in it are mainly members of the Abu Krinat, Abu Rabia and Abu Juweiad tribes. In 1996 a local council was declared, after the dissolution of the Masos Regional Council in 1988. According to the estimate of the Central Bureau of Statistics for the middle of 2026, about 22,284 residents live in it, and the annual rate of growth is 3.2 percent; in the count of the local authorities in Israel it stands in the one hundred and twelfth place by size.
