The Dripper Square

The story

The Dripper Square stands in the Neot Lon neighborhood, at the meeting of Yosef Jo Alon Road and Ilan Ramon Road, at the western exit of Beersheba toward Kibbutz Hatzerim. At its center is a glass sculpture in the form of a large drop, accompanied by lighting, the work of Jeremy Langford. The direction to which the square points is also the reason for its form: at Hatzerim, about four kilometers to the west, the Netafim company was founded in 1965, which was among the pioneers of drip irrigation. The company manufactures drippers, sprinklers and technologies for the monitoring and control of the crop, and according to the source it commands more than thirty percent of the drip irrigation market in the world, with twenty-nine subsidiary companies, seventeen production plants and about four thousand three hundred employees. The Netafim plant is the largest of the plants of the kibbutz industry. One drop of glass at the crossroads is the image the city chose for what went out from this desert to the world. The square is one of about fifty squares of Beersheba that have a name of their own and carry a sculpture, a fountain or invested landscaping, out of more than two hundred and fifty traffic circles in the city.
