The Heritage Museum of the Jews of India

The story

In the north of Dimona stands the Heritage Museum of the Jews of India. The immigration from India to Dimona was one of the largest that the city absorbed: in the years in which a local council was declared and a city was declared — 1958 and 1969 — a considerable immigration from India came to it, mainly from the Bene Israel community. To the Dimona transit camp too, whose first population came from North Africa, immigrants from Romania and from India came later. The Bene Israel community is one of the three communities of the Jews of India, and it came from the Bombay area and from the villages of the Konkan region.
