Sababa

The story

“Sababa” is a sculpture by Varda Givoli and Ilan Gelber, a pair of Israeli sculptors who work together. The two created monuments in Bat Yam, in Tel Aviv and in Rishon LeZion connected with the Second World War and with the Holocaust, and the “Fountain of the Zodiac Signs” in Kedumim Square in Old Jaffa is among the better known of their works. In Beersheba stands a second work of theirs: the sculpture of David Ben-Gurion standing on his head, in David Ben-Gurion Square. “Sababa” stands in the central part of the Sculpture Route at Hatzerim, about a hundred meters from the sculpture “Piano” — the two sculptures nearest to each other at the western end of the route. The route numbers thirty-nine sculptures, whose placing began in the year 2000 on the initiative of the artist and curator Marga Fishtein and her husband Israel.
