Yitzhak Avinu Street

The story

Yitzhak Avinu Street is the southernmost of the three patriarch streets of Beersheba, and the shortest of them: it is made up of three segments and runs in the north of the city, in the area of Neighborhood Bet. From here northward continue Yaakov Avinu Street and Avraham Avinu Street, and the whole cluster extends over less than a kilometer. Isaac too is connected to Beersheba in the Book of Genesis, and in a manner that repeats the deed of his father: he went up to Beersheba, his servants dug a well there, and he made with Abimelech a covenant of oath — as Abraham had done before him. Two patriarchs, the same city, the same deed of a well and an oath; and in the city built here in the twentieth century, two street names at a distance of three hundred meters from each other.
