Hura

The story

Hura (Arabic: حورة) is a Bedouin locality in the northern Negev, east of Beersheba. It was established in 1989, within the government plan for the establishment of seven permanent localities for the Bedouin population in the Negev, and to it moved mainly members of the Abu al-Qian and al-Atawna tribes. In 1996 it received the status of a local council, and the serving head of the council is Habis al-Atawna. According to the estimate of the Central Bureau of Statistics for the middle of 2026, 24,321 residents live in it. In Hura a school for excellence in the sciences operates, the only one of its kind in the Bedouin sector, and on its margins the Wadi Attir enterprise is carried on, which joins agriculture, ecology and tourism on the lands of the tribe. Further, a catering business of the women of Hura operates in the locality, which was set up in order to produce employment inside the locality, and in its industrial zone there are some sixty business plots.
